DEPARTMENT CUTS ULSTER CANAL PROJECT OFFICER POST

Despite lengthy correspondence over the past year and a major campaign by Clones Regeneration Partnership and local TDs, to extend the tenure of  the Ulster Canal Project Officer beyond a two-and-a-half year December 2012 review date, the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government issued a letter on 24th October informing the Chairman of its refusal to continue the funding for the local Canal Project Officer, Gerry Darby.
Gerry has worked with Clones Regeneration Partnership over the last two-and-a-half-years and has raised the profile of the Ulster Canal in that time organising both best practice visits and canal conferences.
