Two men were arrested in Emyvale yesterday afternoon following a high-speed garda chase which ended when they crashed into a roadblock set up by gardai.
A garda spokesperson confirmed that a patrol car had pursued the Cork-registered Renault car after it failed to stop at a checkpoint on the northbound N2 at Coolshannagh, outside Monaghan town.
A second garda car had been used, along with another vehicle, to block off the road at Main Street, Emyvale, and it is understood that the silver Renault collided with a van that was in front of it before also hitting the parked patrol car.
Two male occupants of the vehicle, believed to be based in Derry at present, but possibly from this jurisdiction originally, were subsequently arrested and taken for questioning in Monaghan Garda Station.
They were likely be charged under the Road Traffic Act in Cavan District Court today (Thursday), the garda spokesperson confirmed.
