THE consensus around the county that this year’s SFC final was Donaghmoyne’s to lose proved right bang on the money with the champions’ 5-14 to 0-7 clear-cut victory over Truagh last weekend.
Truagh, who were in the very first senior final, were total underdogs going into this match against a Donaghmoyne crew who were aiming for their 10th senior title in a row.
The defending champions were the overwhelming favourites and showed their superiority throughout the game.
Niamh Mc Carthy pointed for Donaghmoyne after just a min of play, Eileen Mc Elroy on the run passed to Majella Woods and she recorded a second, Amanda Casey got a third after collecting from Cathriona Mc Connell.
In the 10th minute the killer blow came for Truagh when Niamh McCarthy collected in the air and passed to Fiona Laffery on the run in and the said player goaled. Less than 3 minutes later a second goal came this time from captain Cathriona McConnell.
Truagh started to get to the speed of the game and with some fast ball going in Natasha Mohan scored a point, her sister Caoimhe pointed soon after when Eileen Mc Kenna won a good ball in the middle of the park, another point came for Natasha in the next minute when her sister Caoimhe won it high in the air and laid it off to her sister on the run in.

Donaghmoyne’s Eileen Mc Elroy and Truaghs Caoimhe Mohan had a clash of heads on the onset of the second half when Caoimhe who had won the ball was tackled by Donaghmoyne defenders resulting in both players running into one another.
Play was delayed for a while but both parties were able to continue on the field.
Caoimhe Mohan who had won the free passed a short ball to Natasha who passed it back again and she pointed. Donaghmoyne had now upped their game and with total supremacy were able to pick of scores at will, points followed from Cora Courtney(1), Niamh Mc Carty(1), Amanda Casey(1) and Cathriona Mc Connell(2).
Then the Truagh goalie kicked the ball out straight into the hands of Cathriona Mc Connell and with the goalie not yet back on the goal line, Cathriona tipped the ball just over her head and it rolled into the back of the Truagh net.
Caoimhe Mohan then pointed a free for a foul on Eileen Mc Kenna. Caoimhe also got a …
