Confirming details of the international angling event, the President of Castleblayney Chamber of Commerce Mr. Patrick McFadden of the Glencarn Hotel, said yesterday they were delighted to host some of the competition team leaders last weekend from the nine competing European countries who were visiting Lough Muckno and were very impressed by the lake and its beautiful surroundings.
He said the team leaders were also delighted to meet tourist-caterers in the area and were also very pleased about the excellent facilities which Castleblayney, and the region, has to offer all visitors.
Mr. McFadden revealed that Italy is re sending four teams; Belgium is sending one; Holland is sending four; ; England is sending four ; Germany is sending two; Ireland will have three in the competition; Hungary will have one; and Switzerland will have two.
There will be huge international interest in the event with at least some 150 people directly involved .
This event is sponsored by Inland Fisheries Ireland and a British group, Maver UK.
One of the key local organizers is South Monaghan veteran coarse angler, Dick Caplice of Carrickmacross, who has chalked up many international angling team awards.
He has played a key role in attracting this huge international event to the Co. Monaghan lake and says Lough Muckno is “the ideal venue” for such a hugely important European coarse fishing competition.
