MACRORY CUP MEDAL BRINGS FOOTBALL IN THE 40S BACK FOR MACARTAN

The atmosphere was rich with nostalgia and there was a palpable sense of history at the special Ulster Colleges Council symposium in the Cardinal O’Fiaich Library and Archive on Thursday evening last when a number of colleges trophies were retired and new replacement trophies were presented to the Council.
Chief among these was a new MacRory Cup which was presented to the Colleges Council by Cardinal Sean Brady and when the cup was unveiled it’s magnificence drew gasps of surprise from the gathering who were told that it was insured for some £20,000 Str.
The MacRory Cup that was being replaced had been presented to the Council in 1962 the year that Cavan, captained by Ray Carolan took the Ulster colleges titles and Carolan was there on Thursday night last to hand over that MacRory Cup which is being retired to the Gaelic Games archive.
