CO COUNCIL SEEKS URGENT MEETING WITH JOBS MINISTER TO BOOST MONAGHAN'S INWARD INVESTMENT PROSPECTS

Monaghan Co Council agreed on Monday to seek an urgent meeting with Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton in an initiative to boost employment creation in the county by heightening its profile as a magnet for inward investment.
A discussion generated by a motion of urgent business from the Sinn Féin grouping heard strong criticism of the Industrial Development Authority for what members perceived as the IDA’s virtual neglect of the county as a location for new enterprise and investment.
The unanimously supported SF motion read: “That this Council notes with concern the figures released last week which show that Monaghan is one of just four counties that has received no IDA funding in the past five years. The fact that only one visit has been arranged with a potential investor to this county since 2007 is an indictment on the IDA and of successive governments.
“That Monaghan Co Council seeks a meeting with the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton as a matter of urgency to discuss this issue in a bid to end the ongoing blatant disregard for Monaghan displayed by the IDA.”
