EPA AWARD FOR BALLYBAY GIRLS
Pictured are Orla Mc Phillips, Lauren Murphy and Muireann O’ Rourke from Ballybay Community College, Monaghan who won the Environment Agency Special Award for their project “Septic tanks: Old versus new!” at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2012 which was held at the BT Arena at Dublin’s RDS. A delighted principal Moya Lynch stated ‘We are so proud of the girls and their achievement and the EPA award bears testimony to the huge workload undertaken by the team in developing their idea. The girls have demonstrated that through hard work, (much of it in school during the Christmas holidays) and dedication, that winning is achievable. This team of girls entered the competition last year and were delighted to be awarded Highly Commended for their project. Such was their interest in Science that they decided to enter again this year and it is a wonderful recognition to their efforts and determination that they have come away with this prestigious award’.
