A 27-year-old Romanian man was arrested after a van he was driving was involved in a number of incidents on Monaghan’s Glaslough Street and Dublin Street on Monday afternoon.
The incident began when the vehicle struck a bollard and caused damage to a shop front before hitting a parked car on Glaslough Street at about 1.40pm.
It is understood that the flat-bodied van continued down Dublin Street before being stopped as it attempted to drive up the street in the wrong direction. A number of pedestrians are reported to have narrowly escaped being injured in the incident.
The man is due to appear at Monaghan District Court next Monday on charges including drunken driving, dangerous driving, causing criminal damage and failing to remain that the scene.
