The Annual Awards Ceremony of Co Monaghan HSE Community Games took place on Tuesday, 1st November, in the Glencarn Hotel, Castleblayney. Mr Leo Marron, Chairman, extended a warm welcome to invited guests, members of the County Executive Committee, members of Area Committees, team managers, parents, and in particular, to the young people receiving awards.
The ceremony commenced with a very entertaining performance from the U13 choir from Truagh who were winners of the gold medal at the National Finals in Athlone. Awards were then presented to competitors who had won 4th place medals in individual events—Eoghan McGinnity, Tyholland(u10 handwriting-O’Hanrahan Travel), Megan Gartlan, Killanny (solo singing-R&S Printers), Abbie McDonald Boyle, Clones(u8 gymnastics-Daramatics). The audience was then treated to beautiful singing by Megan Gartlan.
Winners of bronze medals in individual and team events were up next to receive their awards. In the team events Bawn/Latton U15 Girls Rounders team received the Hillgrove Hotel Award, Donaghmoyne U16 Girls Volleyball team received the Ann O’Reilly Award, Tydavnet U16 Boys Volleyball team received the Westenra Arms Hotel Award, and Donagh U13 Girls Basketball team received the Philip Brady Memorial Award from Cormac Brady, brother of Philip. Individual awards were presented to Amy Monaghan, Tydavnet(u10 Art-Mullen Bros), Aine Walsh, Castleblayney(solo dance-McElroy Trophies), Aoife Kearney, Inniskeen(u8 swimming-Marron Garages), Cathal Kearney, Inniskeen(u10 swimming-McElvaney Motors), and Andrew Jackson, Carrickmacross(u16 gymnastics) who received the Joe Flynn Memorial Award from Lisa Flynn. This section of the ceremony concluded with a wonderful dance performance from Aine Walsh.
Awards were then presented to winners of silver medals at the National Finals—Donaghmoyne u10 Draughts (Rossmore Furniture Award), Smithboro Group Dance (Silvercrest Foods Award), Donaghmoyne Boys Olympic Handball (Glencarn Hotel Award), Donaghmoyne u13 Girls Futsal (Morgan Buses Award), Killevan Girls u16 Table-Tennis (Wilkie & Flanagan Solicitors Award), Killevan Boys u16 Table-Tennis( Allied Irish Banks Award), and Claragh McGahan, Killanny(u10 swimming-Doran Motors Award). The Smithboro Dance Group then brought this section to a close with a lively and energetic performance.
The next set of awards were presented to individuals and teams who had won gold medals at National Finals—Tullycorbett Music Group(Moneycare Award), Sally Moloney, Castleblayney(u12 gymnastics-BOSE Award), Carol Gibson, Clones(u14 gymnastics-Feldhues Award),Daisy Monaghan, Smithboro(u16 gymnastics-McPhillips BMW Mini-Services Award), Donaghmoyne u14 Draughts(O’Rourke Oils Award), Truagh u13 Choir(Town of Monaghan Co-Op Award), and Carrickmacross Variety Group(O’Gorman Super Valu Award). The Tullycorbett Music Group then delighted the audience with some of their gold-medal winning tunes.
The final section in the ceremony was devoted to special awards, presented to individuals and Areas in the County who deserve special recognition. The PRO Award went to three very deserving recipients—Lauren Monaghan, Hollie Monaghan, Abbie McCarey—who took on the onerous task of County PRO, and carried out their duties with great maturity and a sense of responsibility. The award for Most Improved Area, the Credit Union Award, went to Tyholland for their very impressive 55% increase in participation. The award for runner-up, Tomco Foods Award, went to Kilmore/Drumsnatt, while the award for winner, the Anna Jackson Trophy, was presented to Tydavnet. National President, Mr Gerry Davenport, presented an award, on behalf of the County Executive Committee, to Tydavnet Area in recognition of their outstanding achievement in winning the Best Area in Ireland 2010.
