Thank you for all your responses to our announcement of Taste of Monaghan 2011 last week.
Already there is a lot of interest in the event and tickets to the Neven Maguire and Donal Skehan Cookery Demonstrations are selling well. So don’t wait to the last minute to get yours!
Remember, Neven’s Festival launch and the Taste of Monaghan Food Village are in the Four Seasons Hotel at 7.30 pm on Thursday 6th October.
Donal Skehan of RTE “Kitchen Hero” fame will demonstrate his culinary secrets in the lovely Town Hall Room of the Westenra Hotel at 8.00 pm on Friday 7th October. Donal’s demo will be themed around eliminating food waste. With most households throwing out an estimated €600.00 worth of food each year, it is well worth finding out how to use food extras and left overs to produce delicious appetising meals. You are promised a great night’s entertainment with many wonderful prizes to be won.
The Monaghan Food Village will also be open at the Donal Skehan event – to further whet your appetite.
In addition wine expert Jean Smullen’s “Wine Appreciation and Tasting” event in the Festival Marquee on Saturday afternoon and the Cooley Distillery Whiskey Master Class on Sunday afternoon, there are lots of other demonstrations to interest and inspire you.
In response to your comments and feedback from earlier Taste of Monaghan events, we have made sure to include a number of features which are of a specialist nature. For example, on Friday and Saturday afternoons well known local baker, Lorraine Martin, will show you how to prepare gluten free foods. Lorraine’s artisan business – The Cake and Crumb, which you may know from Monaghan Farmers’ Market – supplies a range of beautifully presented breads, brownies and cakes to an ever increasing market.
Gluten free – Wheat free – Guilt Free – that’s the Cake and Crumb motto and Lorraine will let you into some of her secrets as to how to produce wholesome, delicious and extremely attractive foods with only the most healthy of ingredients.
You will also be able to meet, talk to and give your valuable feed back to over 60 producers, big and small, at the Farmers’ Market and The Taste of Monaghan Festival Marquee throughout the Taste of Monaghan Festival weekend.
And a very important announcement … The Teddy Bears’ Picnic
Please note that Taste of Monaghan invites all Taste of Monaghan Teddy Bear lovers to “The Teddy Bears’ Picnic” which will take place on the Diamond at 3.00 pm on Sunday 9th October. This promises to be a charming event when you and your favourite Teddy will enjoy a great afternoon of food, magic, face painting and other entertainment.
