Clones Town Reserves played Cavan Celtic last week knowing 3points would seal there very first League title, after slipping up to Blayney Academy the weekend before by drawing 2 -2 Clones were not going to let it slip away again,
Clones Town Reserves scored with there first attack after Dean McElroy put Carl Woods through one on one, and there was only one winner there 1 – 0 after 20seconds, a shell shocked Cavan Celtic kicked off hoping to get back into the match only to conceed 2more goals in quick sucsession Seamie the Bear Quigley scoring both well taken goals 3 – 0 with just 15 minutes gone.
Clones were domiateing every postition on the pitch and went 4 – 0 up before the brake with Seamie Quigley bagging a first half hatrick, Clones lost there top goal scorer Carly Woods in the first half but had the inform Shane O Dowd to replace him, half time score line 4 – 0 Clones.
The second half started with Cavan Celtic battling for every ball and holding back the Reserves attack, Clones made two more changes early in the second half with Dylan Hibbitt coming on for Patrick McGonnell and Noel McConnon coming on for Seamie Quigley, with the changes made Clones got going again and scored there 5th goal with Shane Leggy Reavey getting his first of the game be rounding the keeper for a simple finish. Cavan Celtic had one of there players sent off for decent and Clones scored there 6th goal when man of the match Adrian Alford played through Danny Rooney to score.
Shane Reavey got his second by chipping the keeper at the edge of the box and the inform Shane O Dowd bagged his 6th goal in the last 6 games, 8 – 0 Clones the title was truely theres at this point, but the best moment of the match had not happend until Clones won a corner, Adrian alford took it calling Shane Reaveys name who was unmarked 35yars out Alford placed the ball on his right foot and Leggy UNLEASHED an unstoppably volley which clipped the underside of the Top left Corner and in 9 – 0 , what a way the end the match and seal the League title a well deserved League title with one deafeat all season which was in the first game against a very good Donagh Celtic team who finished 2nd.
