Revenue officials backed up by Gardai uncovered a major diesel laundering operation near Carrickmacross yesterday (Wednesday). It was believed the facility — which was fully operational — had the capacity to produce around 3m litres of diesel per year with a potential annual loss to the Exchequer of approximately €1.8m.
The facility was discovered in a shed at Monilla, Donaghmoyne in the early hours of the morning.
No arrests were made but a man in his 40s was questioned in relation to the incident.
Enquiries are continuing and a file is to be sent to the Revenue Prosecution Service.
