Carrickmacross Chamber of Commerce were delighted with the success of Saturday afternoon’s festivities in the run up to the Christmas light switch on, officiated by none other by Santa Claus, ably assisted by Michéal O’Reilly, winner of North East Got Talent 2010.

Jim Hand, Chamber President said that there was a great buzz around the town, which was very busy, with a few hundred people lining the Main Street, to catch a glimpse of St. Nicholas and listen to the vast array of local talent that graced the outdoor stage outside Markey’s.

The Farney Singers, under the direction of Carmel Doherty sang, as did the stars of North East Got Talent past and present, including last year’s winner Hannah O’Brien.  Rose McConnon also performed her new self-penned charity single “Christmas Cheer.”

Santa also arrived in style in a vintage Citroën car owned by Johnny O’Rourke, accompanied by An Lochrann Linn.

Most retailers in the town will be open Sundays from now until Christmas.
