Monaghan scooped two of the prestigious awards on offer at last Thursday night’s Quinn Insurance sponsored Ulster GAA Writers Gala Banquet and Awards presentation in the Slieve Russell Hotel. The event which is the biggest such gathering on the GAA social scene attracted over 500 guests and was described by Ulster GAA Writers chairman, John P Graham, who also acted as Fear a Ti, as an outstanding success.

The Communications Award came to Monaghan for the fourth time in all when Siobhan McQuillan won out over Derry’s Sean Gunning and Tyrone’s Damien Harvey.

In her citation Siobhan was cited as “finding life far from plain sailing this year in Monaghan. National League progress, Ulster Championship frustration and then managerial controversy all combined to test her communications ability to the full. Nonetheless her steadfast approach, unwavering diligence and penchant for producing excellent match programmes embracing all competitions at club level including special souvenir programmes for all championship finals, served to sustain her well and often in difficult circumstances.”
