Last weekend, Rossmore Golf Club showcased its five new holes. It was an earnest and concrete underlining of the positive approach being made by the club’s members towards the celebration of the Rossmore’s centenary in 2016 …

The Cootehill road-based Monaghan town course of excellence was en  fete on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the club’s weekend  competition.

In the best tradition of social cliches, ‘a good time was had by all’.   The latest development work has witnessed the creation of two nine  hole loops whereby with the first one finishing at the clubhouse and  the second one finishing where the 18th is situated.

The upshot of the latest refurbishment work is that Rossmore has been  hoisted onto 71 par status and is all of 500 yards longer.

“We felt that such a design, with two loops, would suit those who  might fancy just playing nine holes and return to the clubhouse rather  than go on and take in a further nine holes,” explains Rossmore PRO  Shane Stirrat.

“The weekend allowed our members a preview of the new lay-out and new  holes and now we’re waiting to see what the feedback will be and what  members’ suggestions might be, going forward.

“We’re not talking about the finished article here and there may be  some further alterations and additions made down the line but that  will be decided by the members in time.

“For now, we’re happy with the feedback we’ve gotten to date and  before the next opening of the new holes in April, we’ll have time to  assess just how they’ve gone down with those who played them last  weekend.”
