Monaghan councillors paid over €1.5 million in 2008 and 2009

Monaghan’s county councillors were paid over €1.5 million during 2008 and 2009, according to the latest exposé on monies being paid to local authority members around the country.

According to figures published in last Thursday’s Irish Independent, documenting payments to councillors in the Connacht/Ulster region during 2008 and ’09 (which includes a mix of current councillors and those who were on the authority prior to the June 2009 local elections), the former North Monaghan based Fine Gael representative Pat McKenna received the highest amount, coming to €101,592 over the two years. Cllr McKenna failed to retain his council seat in last year’s local elections ….
