Ballybay’s ‘Historic Landscape Characterisation Plan’ to be launched in September

Detailed new document to inform future planning and development in town and outlying area

An extensive, very detailed and well-illustrated document covering the history of Ballybay, the architecture of the town and the layout of its surrounding landscape is to be officially launched at a special function on 20th September next.

The ‘Ballybay Historic Landscape Characterisation Plan (An Action of the County Monaghan Heritage Plan 2006–2010)’ was prepared for Monaghan Co Council by Sheridan Woods Architects & Urban Planners, with 75% of the funding coming from the Heritage Council.

At their July monthly meeting, the members of Ballybay Town Council were give a detailed presentation on the plan by Monaghan Heritage Officer Shirley Clerkin, who emphasised its importance in relation to ensuring that unique aspects of the town’s historical character are preserved as it develops into the future.

It is intended that downloadable versions of the Historic Landscape Characterisation Plan (HLCP) will be made available on the Co Council’s website, and that it will also have a link on the new website being prepared by the Ballybay Economic Forum. It is hoped too that aspects of the document will be posted on boards in venues accessible to the public, in the town itself, following next month’s 20th September launch at 8pm in Ballybay Wetlands Centre …..
