Blayney Festival criticism rejected by community leaders

AN article in the Evening Herald on Monday last in which there was criticism of the outcome of the recent Muckno Mania Festival and the successful effort by Muckno Mania Festival to win a place, for the second time, in the Guinness Book of World Records, caused considerable anger and annoyance in the area and has led to public protests over the article to the newspaper concerned and a complaint to the Press Council of Ireland.

The Mayor of Castleblayney, Cllr David Funcheon, along with the President of Castleblayney Chamber of Commerce Mr. Patrick McFadden, and the Chairman of the Muckno Mania Festival Committee Mr. Tommy McGuire have expressed their concerns to “scurrilous comments made about the town and the local community” by the feature writer Michael O’Doherty.
