An appeal has been made for wider volunteer involvement in the organisation of this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade in Monaghan town. A meeting to establish a committee to oversee preparations for the big March 17th event will take place in the Market House in the town on Wednesday, February 6 next at 6 pm. At Monday’s meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District, Cathaoirleach Robbie Gallagher encouraged the general public to come along to the meeting and take part in the event’s preparation. 2012 marks the 30th anniversary of the modern St Patrick’s Day Parade tradition in Monaghan Town – and the public are being asked to contribute memorabilia relevant to the event’s recent history for inclusion in a special exhibition being staged in celebration of this significant landmark. Monaghan Town  St Patrick’s Day Parade hits the World Wide Web

The 2011 Parade has the makings of a great day out for all the family. As usual there will be a huge variety of floats, bands, community and business entries. Traditional Irish music will be provided by Féile Oriel before the Parade passes through the Diamond.
