At Monday’s sitting of Monaghan District Court, Judge McLoughlin sentenced Sigitas Baranauskis, with an address at Corbeg, Silversteam, Monaghan, to seven months imprisonment and disqualified the defendant from driving for twenty years. Garda Inspector Pat McMorrow told the Court that Garda Mullens was assaulted on September 16th last whilst Gardaí were executing a bench warrant for the defendant’s arrest. A 20-year-old Emyvale woman was taken to a Dublin hospital for treatment to injuries sustained in an incident in Monaghan Town on Sunday night when a petrol bomb was thrown at a licensed premises. The woman was standing outside Master Deery’s licensed premises in Park Street in the town when the incident occurred. She suffered burns to her hair, back and ear, and after being brought to Cavan General Hospital was transferred to St James’ Hospital in Dublin for treatment for second-degree burns.
