She will begin by visiting Carrickmacross before going to Castleblayney and finishing in Monaghan town. Monaghan Co Council have formally confirmed their nomination as a local authority of the candidature of Independent contender Mary Davis in the forthcoming Presidential election. At a special meeting on Monday morning, Council members voted 14-1 to nominate the Special Olympics Chief Executive, only Fine Gael’s Hugh McElvaney opposing, stating that it would be hypocritical for him to support Ms Davis when he would be actively campaigning for his party’s candidate Gay Mitchell.
