Emyvale 2-09 John Mitchels 0-12 EMYVALE moved through to the All Ireland Club Junior Football Championship semi final but they had to survive a second-half fight back by Liverpool side John Mitchels to book their place in Pairc na hEireann, Birmingham on Sunday last. Essentially it was their two goals in the first half that ultimately saw Emyvale over the line as they weathered the storm in testing conditions and came away with the all-important win which sees them advance to a semi-final showdown against Kildare’s Two Mile House but their resolve was ...

HEARTBREAK FOR EMYVALE

Two Mile House 0-13 Emyvale 2-06 By JOHN GRAHAM IT was heartbreaking for Emyvale when Kildare and Leinster champions Two Mile House booked their place in the AIB All-Ireland Club Junior Football Championship Final with an injury time winner at Pearse Park Longford last Sunday. Two Mile House opened the scoring with a point by Chris Healy on four minutes and Niall Browne put them two points in front after seven minutes. A minute later Emyvale opened their account through David McAllister and then equalised through a Daniel McMahon free. Then, in the 16th ...

EMYVALE ACHIEVE THEIR GOAL(S) AND NOW LOOK TO ULSTER CLUB CAMPAIGN

BY KEVIN CARNEY The age-old cliche which ordains that “goals win matches” richocheted around the rafters of St. Tighernach’s Park last Sunday after the curtain came down on a sparkling 2013 JFC final. As the multitudes of black and white clad gaels smothered the hallowed turf in Clones in celebratory mood after the final, there were few more delighted than Emyvale stalwart Marty McAree. McAree was part of the Emyvale troupe that captured the JFC in 2009 and four years on, his joy was reprised with the 4-9 to 1-9 victory over a ...

EMYVALE EASE INTO THE FINAL

Emyvale 1-15 Oram 0-08 By JOHN GRAHAM EMYVALE possessed too much power and strength in depth for a battling Oram side as they booked their place in the final of the junior football championship for the second year in a row in this entertaining and at times quite exciting contest that was played in somewhat blustery conditions in Smithboro on Sunday afternoon last. Emyvale started well but Oram gradually played their way into this game to the extent that they wiped out an early three points deficit to go on and take the lead ...

EMVALE’S MINORS ON TOP IN HIGH SCORING REPLAY

EMYVALE 3-11 MAGHERACLOONE 1-13 BY JOHN GRAHAM THE PREDATORY instincts of Ryan McAnespie were the central plank of this Emyvale victory in the replayed final of the minor football league division 2 that was played in somewhat greasy conditions in Blackhill on Saturday afternoon last. Mc Anespie finished with the impressive tally of 3-8 with just three of those points coming from frees as he tortured the Magheracloone defence with his pace, skill and most importantly his finishing in what was a veritable tour de force by the county minor star. This was a most ...

CONTEST OF EQUALS WILL DECIDE QUEST FOR JUNIOR GLORY AT THE WEEKEND

Formbook suggests there’ll be little to choose between Emyvale and Drumhowan on Sunday. by JOHN GRAHAM. vital ingredient for success in any team sport is to build up a level of consistency throughout a competition and in that regard the protagonists in Sunday’s final of the Universal Graphics junior football championship are there on merit as they have been two of the most consistent teams in junior ranks of this year. However if in measuring their respective levels of consistency and using that to confer the tag of favourites on one ...

EMYVALE EDGE CLOSER TO TITLE

EMYVALE 2-12 EIRE OG 0-06 By JOHN GRAHAM IN THE end Emyvale who have been one of the favourites for the junior title since the start of the season, experienced little difficulty in booking their place in the final of the junior football championship as they ran out easy winners over an Eire Og side who were always facing an uphill battle. This game was only a contest in the real sense of the word for most of the opening half with little between the sides and Eire Og’s tough ...

TWO MEN ARRESTED AFTER CAR CHASE ENDS WITH COLLISION IN EMYVALE

By Michael McDonnell michael@northern-standard.ie Two men were arrested in Emyvale yesterday afternoon following a high-speed garda chase which ended when they crashed into a roadblock set up by gardai. A garda spokesperson confirmed that a patrol car had pursued the Cork-registered Renault car after it failed to stop at a checkpoint on the northbound N2 at Coolshannagh, outside Monaghan town. A second garda car had been used, along with another vehicle, to block off the road at Main Street, Emyvale, and it is understood that the silver Renault collided with ...

MAXIMUM POINTS FOR EMYVALE

EMYVALE 2-09 KILLEEVAN 0-07 BY JOHN GRAHAM A SHARPER, hungrier, more focused Emyvale got their junior championship campaign off to a winning start at the expense of an under strength Killeevan in what was overall a fairly low key yet competitive although at times scrappy affair that was played in wintry and blustery conditions in Tyholland on Friday evening last. Killeevan may have beaten Emyvale in the league earlier in the season but on this occasion Emyvale were hugely determined that there was going to be no repeat of that as they settled to ...
