The Gardaí were called upon at Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council to implement a clampdown on instances of the illegal blood sport of cockfighting occurring in the county. The members agreed on the proposal of Matt Carthy to support a call made on them by the Irish Council Against Blood Sports to adopt a motion “condemning those involved in the illegal practice of cockfighting and calling on the Gardaí to initiate a crackdown on cockfighting in the county”.
