MOTION TO SUSPEND PAYMENTS TO SOME THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES DEFEATED AT TOWN COUNCIL MEETING

A 3-4 vote defeated a motion tabled by Cathaoirleach Seamus Treanor at Monday night’s meeting of Monaghan Town Council which called on the Minister for Finance and Foreign Affairs “to suspend payment to some Third World countries until there is more accountability and transparency forthcoming as to how this money is being spent.” In moving the motion, Colr Treanor said he was putting it forward because of the serious financial situation the country was in.
