AUGHNAMULLEN’S ARROW IS WORLD DARTS CHAMPION!
Shane McGuirk from Aughnamullen carved himself a unique niche in the annals of Co Monaghan sporting achievement on Sunday when he became the first Irishman to win the WDF World Darts Championship. Known as The Arrow, the 29-year-old defeated veteran Paul Lin 6-3 in the final, which he had reached without dropping a set in any of the previous rounds. He had entered the competition unseeded. Shane surged to a four-set lead in the final but Lim fought back to make it 5-3 before The Arrow produced a nerveless 3-0 ninth set to claim the title and a cheque for £50,000.
