SUICIDES AMONG OVER 60S ON THE RISE IN MONAGHAN AND CAVAN
The Gardaí and the HSE are planning a number of wellness days as part of a strategy to address a significant rise in suicide among the over-60 population in counties Monaghan and Cavan, last weeks meeting of the C o Monaghan Joint Policing Committee was informed. Community represen tati ve on the J PC Alan Johnston had sub mitted a question to the meeting seeking information on the role played by the Gardaí in suicide prevention. Garda Superintendent Ronan Carey said the Gardaí were at the forefront of dealing with people who were vulnerable in society and he believed they had a key role to play in suicide prevention. Superintendent Carey outlined to the meeting the training which the Gardaí received in this regard.
