ANTI PYLON CAMPAIGNERS SAY EXPERT STUDY GROUP ON INTERCONNECTOR IS A ‘CHARADE’

Campaigners against EirGrid’s plans for the North South electricity interconnector have described as a “charade” an invitation to meet members of an Independent Expert Group set up by Minister Denis Naughten T.D. to examine the cost and feasibility of undergrounding the project.

EirGrid received planning permission eleven months ago to construct a 400kV high voltage overhead line with 409 pylons stretching from Woodland close to Batterstown in Co. Meath through Cavan and Monaghan to Co. Armagh and ending in Turleenan near the Moy in Co. Tyrone.
