TOP ECONOMIST SETS OUT CLIMATE CHANGE CHALLENGE AT MONAGHAN CONFERENCE

The responsibility resting on the modern generation to take steps to tackle climate change was set out by leading Irish economist Professor John FitzGerald at a conference in Monaghan Town last Thursday.

The Chairman of the Climate Change Advisory Council told the Monaghan University of the Third Age or U3A “Intergeneration Game” event in the Four Seasons Hotel that the recent impact of Storm Ophelia on the country was “a wake-up call”.

Embracing the conference theme of how productive partnerships could be forged by the youth and senior Irish populations, Professor FitzGerald said there was a responsibility on Irish people of all ages to change behaviours that were contributing to adverse climate…
