CARTHY’S CALL FOR COMMISSION OF INVESTIGATION INTO CYCLIST’S DEATH ON N2 UNANIMOUSLY SUPPORTED

Councillor Colm Carthy asked Monday’s meeting of Carrickmacross/Castleblayney Municipal District to support his motion calling on the government to grant a Commission of Investigation into the events which led to the death of Carrickmacross man Shane O’Farrell in August 2011, who was cycling on the N2 and (died after a hit-and-run), and the subsequent responses of An Garda Siochána, the Courts Service and the Director of Public Prosecutions, as a matter of urgency.

In introducing the motion, Cllr. Carthy stated that he had spoken to Lucia O’Farrell during the summer about the death of her beloved son and the repeated mistakes that occurred before, during and after he was killed just outside Carrickmacross.
