Weekend incidents in which stained glass windows were smashed and a door damaged at the church in the grounds of the St Davnet’s campus in Monaghan Town caused outrage in the local community and have been forcefully condemned.

GardaÍ are investigating incidents in which three of the stained glass windows in the church were shattered and another two damaged by the throwing of rocks and stones. The door to the church was also the subject of a vandalism attack and sustained damage.

The incidents compelled the cancellation of the weekly Mass held in the church, which is a protected structure in the ownership of the HSE.
