Upgrade of N2 only solution to traffic dangers say Co Councillors

A call for the N2 through Co Monaghan to be upgraded to dual carriageway or motorway status was made at Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council. Councillors were of the view that this was the only effective way of eliminating the traffic dangers on stretches of the road and reversing alarming statistics such as the fact that head-on collisions there happened at four times the rate of the national average.

It was agreed on the proposal of Sinn Féin councillor Brian McKenna, seconded by his party colleague Pat Treanor, to lobby Transport Infrastructure Ireland and Minister for Transport Shane Ross TD to bring the N2 up to motorway status as the….
