Four members of the Monaghan senior football panel escaped without injury after a vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a collision while they were en route to Saturday’s ulster Championship semi-final with Down at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh.

The single-vehicle collision occurred as the Ballybay Pearse Brothers quartet of Drew and Ryan Wylie, Dessie Ward and Thomas Kerr were travelling to join up with the rest of the panel and board the team bus in Monaghan Town.

The Wylie brothers later lined out at full-back and left-cornerback while Dessie Ward made a 47th minute substitute appearance as Monaghan succumbed to a 0-15 to 1-14 defeat at the hands of the Mournemen.
