POSITIVE INDICATORS FOR MONAGHAN TRADE PRESENTED BY TOWN TEAM

A significant increase in the number of shoppers frequenting Monaghan Town in the Christmas trading period last year was one of a number of positive indicators for local business presented to Tuesday’s meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District by representatives of the Monaghan Town Team.

Monaghan retail co-ordinator Trevor Connolly said the increased shopper footfall in the town for December 2016 was significant in light of fears of a spending exodus to the North because of the exchange rate with Sterling. He attributed the positive outcome to the intensive ‘shop local’ campaign and the success of the Monaghan Town Voucher Scheme, which had generated a tremendous response from customers and businesses alike in its first year of operation.
