MONAGHAN A GROWING COUNTY – CENSUS FIGURES INDICATE 1.5% POPULATION RISE

Monaghan has seen an increase in its population, according to the results of the 2016 Census.

The first set of results of Census 2016 has been published showing a national population increase of 3.8% since April 2011. The population of the Republic of Ireland stands now at almost 4.8 million.

Monaghan’s population is 61,386, up by 1.5% over the last five years.
The CSO results show the average age of people has risen in Monaghan to 37.4.

For the first time, same sex marriages and civil partnerships were captured in an Irish census.

The findings show that Co Monaghan’s population was comprised of 30,866 males and 30,520 females. This …
