THE tragic death of South Monaghan law student Shane O’Farrell (23) from Carrickmacross who was the victim of a hit-and-run driver on August 2nd 2011 was recalled again this week in a poignant interview given to national media by the victim’s mother, Mrs Lucia O’Farrell.

In the interview, relayed on Facebook, Mrs O’Farrell claimed that the authorities had failed in preventing the Lithuanian national responsible for her son’s death from driving, although he had several convictions, and was also described at the time as a drug addict .

The family has met the Taoiseach Enda Kenny to discuss the matter and have also taken the case to the European Parliament.
