STRICT BAIL CONDITIONS SET FOR MAN ACCUSED OF SERIOUS ASSAULT ON ELDERLY WOMAN

Strict bail conditions were set by Judge Denis McLoughlin at a special sitting of the District Court in Monaghan Town on Saturday last in the case of a man accused of assaulting an elderly woman, causing her harm, in an incident alleged to have taken place on February 1.

Kestutis Linkevicius, 51 Riverside, Monaghan was remanded in custody with consent to bail to appear at Cloverhill District Court on February 10.

The charge against the 56-year-old Lithuanian national alleges that on February 1 2017 at Roosky, Monaghan, he assaulted Eileen Evans causing her harm contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

Garda Colm Patrick McDonagh was the prosecuting Garda in the case.

Garda Inspector Ronan Carey told the court that the Gardaí were objecting to bail in the matter, first and foremost on the grounds of the charge before the court. It was alleged that an elderly lady was involved in an incident in which she received serious injuries.
