BIRD FLU VIGILANCE NEEDED TO PROTECT CAVAN/MONAGHAN AGRI-FOOD SECTOR – BRENDAN SMITH TD

Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith stated this week that it was essential that the Dept of Agriculture continued to review all aspects of its contingency arrangements in relation to bird flu or avian influenza and minimised the threats to relevant industry.

He added that everybody involved with the relevant sectors must be very vigilant in ensuring that best practices were followed at all times.

Deputy Smith stated that the poultry industry was an important sector within the overall agri-food sphere and was of critical importance in the Cavan/Monaghan area.

In Dáil Éireann recently Deputy Smith asked the Agriculture Minister to outline the measures in place to deal with avian influenza and if consideration would be given to the implementation of additional measures.
