PEDESTRIAN SAFETY A PRIORITY – COUNCILLOR SEÁN CONLON

Commenting on the recently installed traffic safety measures on the Dublin Road near St Macartan’s Cathedral in Monaghan Town, Sinn Feín councillor Seán Conlon emphasised the need for pedestrian safety.
He commented: “For many years I have been highlighting the need for traffic safety measures at the busy junction located at the front of the Cathedral where a convergence of high traffic volumes and pedestrian movements occur.

“Recent statistics indicate an increased fatality rate on Irish roads, detailing how perilous our roads can be for vehicle users, pedestrians and cyclists. At every opportunity appropriate measures must be put in place, especially within built up urban areas, to ensure pedestrian safety is achieved and potential for accidents reduced.
