PLAQUE IN MEMORY OF POPULAR MONAGHAN MAN EMBEDDED IN BRIDGE

A plaque dedicated to the memory of a popular Monaghan man has been embedded in Lackan Bridge in Bawn.

This came about after a group of local people decided they wanted to pay tribute to the late Johnny Clerkin, who was a postmaster in the Cortubber area from the Fifties until he passed away in 1984. This group included Mr Clerkin’s nephew, Pat Kerrigan, who is originally from London but now lives in Carrickmacross. As a young lad Mr Kerrigan spent many a summer holidaying in Cortubber with his uncle and has many fond memories of this time.
