FOLKS in the town of Cootehill will be hoping for half decent weather over the winter and Christmas this year, if only for the sake of local lady Mary Cooper who is bravely having her head shaved to raise money for Cootehill Cancer Care.

The big event itself is taking place in Lee’s tomorrow (Friday night), where things get underway at about nine bells and where all present will be asked to generously raid their pockets to support the raffle in aid of this commendable fundraising drive.

Over the last few weeks Mary has had sponsorship cards in local shops to promote a cause that is very close to her heart, as indeed it is to many in the town and further afield whose family members and friends have been affected by cancer over the years.

Donations can also be made directly at Cootehill Credit Union or online via a bank transfer from any bank to Cootehill Credit Union (IBAN IE78BOFI90331410046424; BIC BOFIIE2DXXX; reference Mary Cooper).

To underline her initiative, care assistant Mary has dyed her hair purple, the colour for cancer support, and is seeing to it that every single penny she raises goes straight to the hardworking Cootehill Cancer Care group, as all involved in the big head-shave event are providing their services for free. Shedding all your locks coming into the cold season is a brave move for anyone, especially if you’re a gal. But Mary assures us she’s got it covered, literally, as her sister Ann has already knitted a hat — and might even do one or two more woolly tops for her if pushed!

We wish Mary all the best with her very worthwhile, hair-razing fundraiser!
