YOUNG PEOPLE OUT IN FORCE FOR COMHAIRLE NA NÓG AGM

The Hillgrove Hotel was a hive of activity last Friday morning as the Comhairle na nÓg AGM took place.

Comhairle na nÓg are child and youth councils in the 31 local authorities of the country and give children and young people the opportunity to be involved in the development of local services and policies. In Monaghan, the Comhairle committee has representation from the 12 secondary schools in the county and from a variety of youth organisations.

Each year, the committees take on a key project with a view to changing and improving the lives of young people. This year’s project theme was Intergenerational Stereotyping. As previously reported in The Northern Standard, the Comhairle na nÓg members short film ‘Breaking the Stereotypes’ was officially launched by Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Heather Humphreys in Clones at the end of September. This short film was also screened at last Friday’s Comhairle na nÓg AGM, which had a ‘All Young People are Superheroes’ theme.
