CLONTIBRET MAN ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE CONFEDERATION OF EUROPEAN PROBATION

A Monaghan man was recently elected as President of the Confederation of European Probation.

Gerry McNally, who is originally from Clontibret but now lives in Dublin, was elected to the role, which has a three-year term, at the CEP’s General Assembly, which took place in Bucharest, Romania. CEP is the European network of probation agencies and organisations and aims to promote the social inclusion of offenders through community sanctions and measures such as probation, community service, mediation and conciliation.

Mr McNally has been the Assistant Director in the Probation Service since 2006 and has worked at all levels within the Probation Service since joining in 1978. 
Speaking to The Northern Standard, Mr McNally described his new role and the opportunity to represent Ireland on an international forum as an honour for himself and the Probation Service.
