Glaslough Tidy Towns who were recently crowned the 2016 County and Gold Medal Award winners in the National Tidy Towns Competition were delighted to learn that they had also won the ‘CAN IT’ award which was sponsored by Alupro Ireland.

The Can Mill which featured in an article by Sylvia Thompson in last week’s Irish Times demonstrated how Glaslough like other tidy town groups have become Eco Centres. Located in St Mary’s community Garden along the Monaghan Road the Can Mill stands 25ft high. Sitting proudly on top is a traditional weather vane kindly donated by Paudge and Marie Colleran. What is unique to the Can Mill is how it collects both wind and solar power and subsequently powers lights on the Mill and nearby Plastic bottle Greenhouse. So not only does it prevent waste it is also creates electricity. Over 15,000 aluminium cans were collected for the construction of this innovative project by the junior tidy towns, St Mary’s and Billis school…
