Congratulations have been flowing in for the Monaghan entrant in the 2016 Rose of Tralee contest, Pamela Allen, following her accomplished performance on the stage of The Festival Dome in the Co Kerry venue on Monday night.

Pamela showed host Dáithí Ó Sé some accomplished dance moves and proved a very elegant and eloquent ambassador for her county.

Maggie McEldowney, representing Chicago, was announced as the 2016 Rose of Tralee winner in front of nearly one million television viewers and a Dome audience of 2,000 people on Tuesday night.

The 27-year-old was presented with her sash and tiara by 2015 Rose of Tralee Elysha Brennan and Robbie Scanlan, Managing Director of Tipperary Crystal, lead sponsors of the festival.

Success came Monaghan’s way through Rose Escort Conor Caulfield – the Scotstown business analyst was shortlisted in the top three for the Best Escort accolade, which ultimately went to 26-year-old John Slowey from nearby Enniskillen in Co Fermanagh.

John, who received a cheque for €1,000, stated: “It’s an absolute privilege to take over the mantel from Shane Kenny (2015 Rose Escort of the Year). I represent a group of 65 lads who have pulled together this week and it’s been very enjoyable.
