CCTV EVIDENCE SHOULD BE USED TO CURB “WILD WEST” SCENES IN MONAGHAN TOWN CENTRE – COUNCILLOR CONNOLLY

Gardaí were called upon at Monday’s meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District to consult town centre businesses with CCTV surveillance systems in order to gather evidence against those responsible for what Independent councillor Paudge Connolly described as “Wild West” scenes which had resulted in damage being caused to floral displays.

When reference was made at the meeting to the commencement of judging in the Tidy Towns competition, Colr Connolly commended the voluntary efforts being made locally to beautify Monaghan Town. However, he noted, on recent Thursday mornings the town centre “seemed like the Wild West” with flower pots in The Diamond and other locations near the town centre destroyed. He believed this damage had been caused after a disco.

While he acknowledged that the Gardaí had stretched resources, he thought they should consult with businesses in the town centre area who might have recorded CCTV footage that could assist in identifying the culprits for this damage.
