On Friday night last, a large crowd gathered at the Sean Mac Diarmada club to pay homage to the club patron, Sean Mac Diarmada, with the unveiling of a commemorative plague.

The ceremony, conducted by Chairperson Sean McElvaney, began with a short introduction and brief history of the patron’s association with the club.
To unveil the plague, the Club had asked two of its veterans, Seamus Timoney and Seamus Mulligan. Both men have been tremendous servants to the club at every level and it was fitting that they were part of the ceremony.

The ceremony was followed by a discussion with Mr Gerard McAtansey on the life and times of Mac Diarmada. Mr McAtansey, a historian and author of ‘Sean Mac Diarmada – The Mind of the Revolution, captivated his audience with an incredible insight into the background to the rising and subsequent execution of Sean Mac Diaramada. His recall of dates, events, names etc was very impressive. This was a terrific evening of history, nostalgia and memories which marked the clubs recognition of its Patron.
