A GARDA who is facing drink driving and dangerous driving charges relating to an incident in which the car he was driving reportedly crashed into a Garda patrol car in March of last year had his case adjourned at Monaghan District Court last Friday.

Kevin McLaughlin (29), of Gartan, Churchill, Letterkenny, Co Donegal was remanded on continuing bail to appear again at Carrickmacross District Court on Wednesday 8th June next.

Mr McLaughlin, who was stationed as a garda in Carrickmacross, is facing charges alleging that he drove while exceeding the alcohol limit at Moyles, Monaghan on 21st March 2015, and that he was driving dangerously on the occasion — when it was reported that his vehicle had been in collision with a patrol car that was dealing with another accident.

He is also charged with having no road tax or NCT certificate on the car he was driving when the incident occurred.

At Friday’s hearing Judge Denis McLoughlin was informed by prosecutors that the case is expected to be fully contested by Mr McLaughlin.

The defendant was not present in court, and no reference was made to his status as garda.
