“WILL WE GET IN TOUCH WITH THE STANDARD?” – COLR O’HANLON MIFFED AT MINISTER’S MEDIA ROADS FUNDING ANNOUNCEMENT

A pre-Christmas media release from Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Heather Humphreys TD stating that Cavan and Monaghan roads would get more than €13 million in 2016 provoked the ire of Fianna Fáil’s P J O’Hanlon at the December meeting of Monaghan Co Council.

When informed by the executive that the total funding it would receive for roads in the current year had not yet been notified to the Council, Colr O’Hanlon responded that it was, “On the front of the paper” (referring to a story on Page 1 of The Northern Standard on January 7), and asked, “Will we write to the Dept or will we get in touch with the Standard?” in order to find out the Co Council allocation.

Colr O’Hanlon said that every other year up to now notification of their roads money came directly to the Council. He asked if a letter went from Monaghan Co Council to the Standard.
