WAITING LISTS FOR HOSPITAL PROCEDURES BEING IGNORED BY MINISTER SAYS HAGAN

Minister for Health Leo Varadkar was accused this week by Monaghan Hospital activist Tommy Hagan of ignoring the plight of the large number of Co Monaghan people facing lengthy delays in having hospital procedures carried out.

In a statement to The Northern Standard, the former Monaghan Town Councillor said that a great deal of hidden suffering lay behind the cosmetic efforts the Minister was making to address what could only be described as a crisis situation in hospital services.

“I am aware of a good many people in this county who are being forced to endure what must seem to them an endless wait to have important surgery and treatment procedures carried out,” he stated.

“In some instances these people have travelled long distances to fulfil appointments in our major hospitals only to be informed that because of pressure on consultants and other personnel, their particular case can’t be dealt with on a given day.

“This adds inconvenience, expense and mental trauma to their pain and suffering, ….
