RECORD NUMBERS ATTEND BOOTS N BOGS WALKING FESTIVAL

24 April 2015 No Comments by The Northern Standard

The fine Spring weather attracted record numbers of walkers to the Knockatallon Rambler’s walking festival at Sliabh Beagh last weekend. Walkers from Derry, Belfast and from as far away as Holland enjoyed perfect conditions for hikes at Knockatallon on Saturday and the Coonian Community Centre in South Fermanagh on Sunday.

The main attraction at Sliabh Beagh is the pristine bog habitat that expands across three border counties. The group stopped at County Monaghan’s highest point at 366 metres before arriving arriving at the Three County Hollow where Tyrone, Fermanagh and Monaghan meet. The leisurely 5 hour hike is graded easy to moderate and walkers had plenty of time to stop and take in the scenery along the way.

A special thanks goes to the Sliabh Beagh Hotel and Monaghan Sports Partnership. The Coonian Ramblers provided the hospitality on Sunday and put on two excellent walks in the Brown Hills area of Slaibh Beagh. The club would also like to thank walkni and local community groups who helped make the weekend a huge success
